Hanham Minor League

Fry Club Juniors v St Vallier

Sunday 22 February 2006.

1st Match

1st Half

St Vallier started well; pushing the ball straight into the Fry’s half with no reply from Fry’s to win the ball back. St Vallier won a corner that was knocked in high and fell to the boot of Fry’s defender Jonathan Shorland who couldn’t control the ball and mis-kicked into the back of the net for an own goal.

Fry’s got straight back to work with some better passing in the middle of the park and out to the wings. A good pass from Mitch Thornton to Kyle Morris saw him weave in and out of three players to drive the ball home for 1-1.

St Vallier continued to push the ball back into the Fry’s half and were unlucky not to grab another goal.

2nd Half

Fry’s tried to get hold of the game but were unable to put any good passes together, giving the ball to the opposition with nearly every ball played forward.

Only good defending from Joel Rowbottom and Jonathan Shorland stopped the visitors scoring again but still the balls played forward were very poor.

A poor pass was then picked up by a St Vallier player and with Keeper Aaron Loughlin out of position in front of his goal gave the Saints player an almost open goal, 2-1.

Fry’s replied with a good run down the middle of the pitch and a late tackle by a St Vallier player on Mickey Parsons saw Mickey carried off with a bad injury to his ankle. With a free kick awarded to Fry’s, Jonathan Shorland powered a good ball into the penalty area that was helped into the net by the head of Kyle Morris to make it 2-2 with only seconds to the final whistle. A good fight back to draw a game that Fry’s were never really in.

Final score: Fry Club Juniors 2 St Vallier 2

Man of the match – Kyle Morris

2nd Match

1st Half

A good start by Fry’s saw the ball taken down the wing and crossed straight in across the goal. As St Vallier cleared the ball a Ben Clapp shot was stopped by the hand of a St Vallier player and a penalty was awarded to Fry’s that Ben Clapp coolly slotted home,1-0.

Fry’s attacked from the restart and winning the ball straight back they began passing it around with ease.

With the ball staying firmly in the St Vallier half, Fry’s could have gone 2 or 3 up with shots from Ben Watt, Ben Harper & Mitchell Thornton all coming close.

A good run down the wing saw a Mitchell Thornton cross slotted home by Ben Clapp,2-0.

St Vallier make an attempt to break into the Fry’s half but are stopped in their tracks by the solid tackles of Corey Reid who cleared the ball with a 30 yard pass to the feet of Mitchell Thornton on the left wing. Mitch then switched the play to the right where Ben Clapp collected his pass and slotted home for his hat-trick.

Again Fry’s were straight back at St Vallier with Ben Harper latching on to a lose ball in the visitors penalty area to make it 4-0.

With Saints now forced into constant defending Fry’s were not letting up with their will to keep the ball with some of the best passing I have seen all season.

A Ben Clapp pass to Mathew Holloway was passed on to Ben Harper to net his 2nd, 5-0.

2nd Half

Fry’s continued the stronger team with a cross from Ben Clapp into the box finding Ben Harper to get his hat-trick.

With Saints unable to break through the Fry’s midfield the ball was won by Jordan who passed out to Mitch, he then whipped in a low ball for Ben Harper to run on to for his 4th, 7-0.

Again Jordan Finch won the ball in midfield and passed out wide and this time running on to receive the ball back to grab another goal for the home side, 8-0.

St Vallier came back at Fry’s and managed to get a shot at goal but it was no trouble for Keeper Aaron Loughlin.

Fry’s returned this with a thunderous shot from Ben Watt that was saved by the visitors keeper but was unable to hold and was slotted home by Ben Clapp, 9-0.

Saints still couldn’t find an answer to this as Mathew Holloway   weaved around two or three players to notch goal number 10.

With confidence at a high Fry’s passed the ball brilliantly again to set up Ben Harper with his 5th goal and Fry’s 11th.
